CSA week #7 is upon us and we have a couple announcements to make.
Garlic Harvest Party
Saturday, July 31 from 9:00 a.m.
until the garlic is harvested
Please come and see your farm, harvest garlic and participate in one of the best potlucks of the year. All farm members and friends are welcome to come for all or any part of the day. Please bring a dish to pass, your plate and setting, and any special drink you may want.
Order by the ½ pound
$5.00 per ½ pound
No chemicals, just fresh basil.
1/2 pound makes about 2 batches of pesto. Pesto is a great to freeze now for winter use. One great tip is to make your pesto, put it in ice cube trays and freeze, then remove from the trays and freeze in quart bags. Pull ice cubes of pesto as needed.
PESTO!2 large cloves garlic 3 firmly packed cups fresh basil leaves 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese 1 cup olive oil ½ cup pine nuts Put garlic in food processor or blender and grind. Add all other ingredients and blend until basil leaves and nuts are in small pieces.
Alrighty, with that all said let me tell you what we are thinking we will have in the box this week. Whoa, the garden is going bonkers. Chinese cabbage, chard bunches, carrots, onions, green beans, cucumbers, summer squash, beets, broccoli, maybe on salad mix, maybe on herbs (either dill, basil, or cilantro) and radishes. I think that is all.
