This Spring (late Winter?) we are attempting to blanket the Web with Swier Family Farm materials and friendly reminders of CSA sign-ups (due April 15, 2014). Until the weather really shows long and steady evidence of Winter cracking and Spring emerging, garden-fresh produce remains distant on many people’s mindscapes.

For us, the production of garden-fresh produce is already all-absorbing.

The early sign-ups (and the good-faith commitments) greatly help us mitgate some of the risk in planning and expenses. Excepting labor costs (our greatest single categorical cost of the season), most of our expenses come early (as in now, or before now). Your ‘early’ sign-ups are greatly helpful to us.

So, our wish is that you can take the Swiers ‘blanketing’ of the Web as informational, enjoyable, and simply friendly reminders. Again and again.

And we thank you, too, for passing the info on, again and again, to your many electronic connections. The word-of-mouth from you is fantastically helpful.

thanks for your understanding,

and for your aid in getting the word out louder and further,

Chris Swier

The Swier Family Farm in 2014

The Swier Family Farm is a small, family farm located in Remus, MI. We farm organically, though we are not certified. All food and flowers are grown by us on our farm. We deliver all produce to central drop-off locations. We offer both a Vegetable and Mushroom CSA Share
.

This CSA brings you and us, the Farm and the food, together. Our CSA is both a concept and practice. This requires mutual trust, understanding and flexibility. You support stewardship of the farm and food when you buy a share of the upcoming harvest. As partners in community and agriculture, we pledge to share the benefits of abundance and the risks of failure. We will all do our best to nurture this CSA this season.

The Vegetable CSA costs $440 (a half share is $270: I’d instead recommend you find a “crate mate”). For 18 weeks, June through September you receive a 4 – 20 pound assortment of fresh vegetables and limited flowers. This is approximately 1-3 grocery bags worth. The quantity and variety will vary seasonally.

The Mushroom CSA costs $30. You will receive 1/2 pound, 6 times in 2014 (for 3 pounds total). We cultivate shiitake in natural logs, wine caps in certified organic straw, and oyster mushrooms in “totem logs”. We also offer storage, preparation, and recipe ideas.
